PDF to Word Troubleshooting: Missing Text and Broken Formatting

If text is missing, the PDF may be scanned, the text may be embedded as an image, or the font encoding may be unusual. Try OCR for scanned pages and review whether the source PDF has selectable text.

Garbled output often comes from custom fonts or unusual character maps inside the PDF. The page can look correct visually while the hidden text layer stores characters in a nonstandard way.

Tables are difficult because PDF does not always store table structure. A converter must infer rows and columns from lines and text positions, so dense or borderless tables may need manual cleanup.

Images can move when Word reflows nearby text. If an image disappears, it may have been stored as a background, annotation, or transparency layer that the converter did not map cleanly.
