- When should I convert JPG to PNG?

- Will the converted PNG file be larger than the original JPG?
- Yes. PNG uses lossless compression and produces larger files than JPG's lossy compression for photographs. This is the expected trade-off for higher quality and transparency support.
- Does converting JPG to PNG improve the image quality?
- No. Converting JPG to PNG does not restore detail lost during the original JPEG compression. The PNG will be the same visual quality as the JPG, just in a lossless format that will not degrade further on future saves.
